Designing a Website with a strong conceptual design and paying close attention to some basic rules about visual design, interface, usability, navigation and style will have a better foundation to build on. The following design ideas can help you create a compelling Website that grows gracefully:
1. Simple, Easy and Clean
Creating a simple and easy navigational system is one of the most important elements to creating a Website. The only frustrating thing for your visitors/users is, not being able to find what they're looking for. Make navigation easy and simple so the the visitors can easily navigate in all sections your website and make sure he/she can navigate from every page. Providing a site map of your website at the bottom of every page (in a footer) would be good practice.
Example: Home > Section > Sub Section > Final Destination
You can best do this by creating a set of links to each of the main sections and placing it at the top (under header) or side of every page. Using a graphic icons can make your navigation more attractive. Your goal is to make sure that viewers don't have to use the Back button in their browsers to move around your site.
2. Design - Audience First
It doesn't matter how technically interactive a Web site is or how great the usability, user interact with the design first. Make sure that design for your Web site should be user friendly. The right design is one that best suits your audience — that may or may not mean lots of fancy graphics and animations.
3. White Space Consistentancy
One of the best design features you can add to a page is white space. White space gives the eye a rest, something readers/users need even more often when they're staring at a computer screen. White space can be use to separate one type of information from another and to focus the viewer's attention where you want it most. Some of the most beautiful and compelling designs on the Web use only a few well-thought-out elements against lots of white space.
4. Back-up Your Website
Always keep in mind that you have a system in place to back up your Web site. Make sure you have a copy of all the files that are on your server in a separate location and update it regularly to make sure you have the latest version of your site backed up at all times. Even the best Internet Service Providers sometimes have technical problems, so you should keep a backup of your site where you have easy access to it and can get it back online quickly if something ever does happen to delete any or all the files you have on the server.
5. Small & Fast
Making sure that your pages download quickly makes your viewers more likely to keep clicking. If your page designs take a long time to download, here are a few tips to make them load faster:
First, If you have a large Flash introduction at your home page try to reduce the size or have a option in the page for the users to skip large multimedia files. You especially don't want to make users wait too long for the first page of your site. If you noticed that static images are the problem, consider compression methods and use a program such as Photoshop, Fireworks or ImageReady that are designed for optimizing images for the Web. Finally, use Dreamweaver's code cleanup feature to get rid of extra tags that can contribute to a heavier page.
6. Follow the 3 Clicks Rule
This rule define that no important piece of information should ever be more than three clicks away from anywhere else on your Website. The most important information should be even closer at hand. Some information, such as contact information, should never be more than one click away. Make it easy for viewers to find information by creating a site map and a navigation bar — a set of links to all the main sections on your site.
7. Provide A Site Map
As your site grows, It is tought to provide easy access to all the information on your Website. One of the better solution is to provide a site map, which is a page that includes links to almost every other page in the site. This page should be fully functional — it doesn't matter if it looks pretty or not. Don't put lots of graphics on this page; it should load quickly and provide easy access to anything that your visitors need.

Nice suggestions. Actually considering these points, one can design a very good website, which can ameliorate your website marketing technique. When it comes to website, extra attention should be paid to every minute detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are five important rules of thumb to observe to make sure your website performs well that I have had to know from my past experiences.
1) Do not use splash pages:
Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a site. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like "welcome" or "click here to enter". In fact, they are just that -- pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the "back" button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page.
2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements:
Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable blog real estate. Instead, provide more valuable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to read instead of being pushed to read.
3) Have a simple and clear navigation:
You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don't know how to navigate, they will leave your site.
4) Have a clear indication of where the user is:
When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don't confuse your visitors because confusion means "abandon ship"!
5) Avoid using audio on your site:
If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on on your dental website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it -- volume or muting controls would work fine.
There are many prominent website designing companies, who design the websites which are highly compliant with internet search engine algorithms, hence ameliorating your progress and publicity. Companies like www.medicalwebexperts.com have been considered to be the pioneer in creating web sites, especially in the field of medical healthcare. I suggest you having a look over such companies, and think over it before jumping into some serious business over the internet.
