Pligg is an open source Content Management System (CMS) available to download for free. Pligg has perfected content management in a unique way that encourages users to participate and control the content on the site. This makes the site user-moderated and allows for "social publishing" where the stories are created and promoted by members not website editors. Pligg CMS is based on PHP and MySQL technologies that allow it to be installed on almost any web host on a relatively small budget.
Pligg Features
Multiple Authors
While most content management systems are designed for just a few authors to control the content, Pligg is designed from the ground up to have thousands of authors on each site.
Article Rating
Pligg started as a simple CMS that let users submit and vote on news articles, and that's still what we do best. Vote on articles that interest you and articles with enough votes will appear on the homepage of a Pligg site. Pligg offers a 5 star method for voting or the more traditional numbered voting as seen on sites like Digg, Mixx or Reddit.
Private Messaging
A social network site isn't very social without the ability to communicate with each other. That's why we include a private messaging module with Pligg, so you can leave messages in your friends inboxes.
Advanced Comment System
Not only can you comment on articles, but you can rate comments posted by other users. This effects the way that the comments are displayed, putting higher quality comments on top where they belong.
Module System
Add additional functionality to your Pligg site without having to alter the Pligg code. There is already a large library of modules to choose from that will greatly enhance your Pligg site.
Smarty Templates
We use the Smarty template system to keep our code seperate from the design. This makes updating your site to the latest version of Pligg easier, and designing new templates a breeze.
Spell Check
Our built in Spell Check system lets users check their spelling before submitting an article or comment.
Support for Multiple Languages
A single file handles all of the words used in Pligg, making it extremely simple to change the language by translating just one file. Pligg has also been designed so that users choose a language during the first installation step.
User Profiles
Each user that signs up on a Pligg site gets their own profile page, where they can add contact information, personal messages, an avatar and other information.
RSS Feeds
We're big fans of using RSS feeds to follow the latest news from our favorite sites and that's why we have added RSS functionality all over Pligg. You can subscribe to a user's voting trends, the front page, upcoming page and categories.
Import RSS Feeds as News Articles
Import an existing site into Pligg by using Pligg's RSS Import module. The Pligg RSS Import module checks subscribed RSS feeds automatically and adds them to your site. This technology gives you one more tool that will make your Pligg site less dependent on original content.
Sort Articles
News items are categorized, tagged, timestamped and attributed to authors, making articles easier for users to find relevant and fresh news items that appeal to them.
Live Ajax Newsfeed
Watch as news items appear instantly as updates become available on the "Live" page. Comments and Articles being added to your Pligg site are constantly appearing on active sites, letting your users keep an eye on the latest news available without having to even refresh their browser.
SEO Enhanced
We've done our best to help drive more traffic to your site by being as search engine friendly as possible. Our SEO methods will help get your site indexed faster and more often.
URL Blocklist
Don't want to have your competitors submitting links to their sites? Blacklist them with Pligg's built in URL Blocklist capability.
